Revitalizing Habitat for Humanity’s Neighborhood Engagement Efforts Through Community Consultancy

During the 2022-2023 academic year, the Department of Health Science’s Community Practice Lab (CPL) in the UNC School of Medicine is partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Orange County, NC (Habitat) to inform Habitat’s neighborhood engagement efforts in communities. The partnership is developing a strategic plan to improve Habitat’s presence, role and approach in supporting community goals and interests. Through this process, the CPL team facilitates meetings with Habitat staff and community consultants living in or connected to various Orange County neighborhoods. Presenters will analyze available community engagement tools and resources and ways they may be effectively utilized (or not) by community partners like Habitat for Humanity. In particular, the presentation will share lessons learned from engaging community members as consultants in community partnership development.
