Um, Who is the Expert Here? Valuing Lived Experiences as True Expertise

March 2, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:15 pm

Partnering with community members on research projects allows both academic and community partners to blend insights from existing research and with that from lived experiences. When it works best, the relationship between community and campus partners is one of reciprocity and mutual respect. By bringing together academic and community experts, each can leverage their strengths to co-create knowledge and address challenges in ways that are mutually beneficial.

While the ultimate goal to address a particular issue is shared, the specific priorities, perspectives and processes are rarely in perfect alignment across the academic and community partners. This session is about trying to do “both and,” both academic work and community work, and how challenging this can sometimes be given the occasional differences.

Attendees will hear from campus and community experts involved in these types of partnerships and the lessons they have learned from these experiences. Attendees who register for this event also have the option to check that they will also attend a reception afterward.
