El Futuro: Partnering with UNC Students to Promote Culturally Responsive Care for Latine Communities

February 27 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

El Futuro's logo with five different colored teardrop shapes. Text reads "El Furturo."

This interactive presentation engages attendees in the work of El Futuro, North Carolina’s premier provider of bilingual and culturally responsive mental health services. The event will provide attendees with a foundational understanding of the Latine community’s growth in North Carolina and Latine cultural values in human services and integrated health care settings. Attendees will receive an introduction to a culturally responsive approach when working with Latine communities and have an opportunity to reflect and practice with roleplays. El Futuro partners with UNC by hosting interns from the School of Social Work, Gillings School of Global Public Health and Carolina Center for Public Service. Roxana and Molly will share their experiences as interns with El Futuro’s technical assistance team, developing resources and facilitating trainings across North Carolina to help mental health providers and agencies become more prepared to effectively support Latine communities.

Presenters:

  • Rachel Galanter, El Futuro’s Technical Assistance & Consultation Lead, Advancing Latine Mental Health Access
  • Roxana Keesler and Molly Vaughters, UNC SSW Interns, El Futuro Training Education and Consultation Services
