Developing a conceptual model to measure structural racism in the community-engaged research process

February 25 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Carolina Engagement Week Logo with four small images representing the mountains, coast, rural, and urban areas.

This panel will delve into the critical need to address structural racism within community-engaged research (CEnR). While CEnR holds promise for reducing these disparities by authentically involving stakeholders, a key challenge remains: the lack of tools to measure and address how structural racism impacts CEnR methods.

Our panel will:

  • Present a novel conceptual model developed collaboratively by academic and community partners.
  • Facilitate an interactive discussion exploring the model’s key constructs, its development process, and its potential to promote more equitable and inclusive research practices.
  • Engage the audience in a dialogue about the challenges and opportunities in confronting structural racism within CEnR, with a long-term goal to promote health equity.

We believe this discussion will contribute to a much-needed conversation about how to ensure that CEnR truly benefits all members of the community who experience health disparities, particularly those who have been historically marginalized and systematically underserved.
