Civic Hackathon: (Visualize) Helping North Carolina Communities Recover from the Impacts of COVID-19
March 21, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Use your creativity and data analysis skills to create tools for community engagement. Carolina’s first ever Engagement Week will include a week-long civic hackathon competition where students are invited to analyze and visualize data on COVID-19’s health, economic and/or social impacts across North Carolina. Your efforts in this competition will serve as an important contribution to the campus-wide Carolina Across 100 (CX100) commitment to help communities in each of the state’s 100 counties recover from the wide-ranging impacts of COVID-19. Join us for this 90-minute kick-off session where the Carolina Across 100 team and our colleagues from Innovate Carolina will walk students through the hackathon process and provide them with the basic background information they need to get started. We are looking to our students to bring their diversity of experience, passion, and bright ideas to develop data visualizations that will serve as critical conversations starters with communities. Visualizations can include infographics, slide presentations, and posters. They can also include audio/visual elements as well an incorporate music, art, dance, poetry, etc. A goal of this competition is to be inclusive, diverse, and creative in the ways that data can be visualized and shared. Cash prizes for winning teams, so use your competitive spirit to support the people of our state. Remember to also register your team to participate in the hackathon itself. This is separate from the Zoom kick-off session, and you can find the hackathon registration by clicking here.
