Building Academic-Practice Connections in Rural Public Health
February 24 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Join us for a presentation and interactive discussion featuring Karl Johnson (Department of Public Health Leadership and Practice) and Lisa Macon Harrison (Adjunct Professor in PHLP and Health Director of Granville Vance Public Health). Karl will share his experience working as a public health practice faculty member—with one foot in academia and one foot in a rural health department—to present a case study for how academic partnerships can work with local government agencies, outlining the origins of the partnership, the added value for both members of the partnership, and future directions. Participants will learn about specific examples of work accomplished at the intersection of academic and community-based public health and have the opportunity to learn how they could pursue a similar partnership in their own discipline.
Presenters:
- Karl Johnson, Department of Public Health Leadership and Practice
- Lisa Macon Harrison, adjunct professor in PHLP and health director of Granville Vance Public Health
